Eagles lose last game, 10-11

4/12/03 - Biola suffers a heartbreaking loss to the Cal State Hayward Pioneers, 11-10. The Iron-man squad of Hayward took the lead in the third quarter and held it till the end.

Biola started the scoring early in the first quarter when senior Sean Connally assisted senior Ryan Agadoni on the goal. The next goal of the game did not come until the beginning of the second quarter when junior John LaDue assisted senior Dave Crandall on a fast break play.

Biola would go up 3-0 when senior John Tiffin assisted Connally before Hayward got their first goal. The Eagles retaliated with a goal from Crandall from freshman Duncan Campbell. Hayward scored again to make it 4-2 at half time.

The Pioneers came out inspired in the third quarter tallying 5 goals, four of which happened consecutively. Suddenly, the Eagles defense that had been playing an excellent first half could not keep the Pioneers from scoring.

Biola scored two goals in the third but was stunned to find themselves down 7-6 at the end of the third. Connally scored on a split-dodge move and Campbell scored on an assist from freshman Josh Agadoni.

Hayward's Julio Adib-Samii would score their next four goals at the beginning of the fourth quarter to seemingly seal Biola's fate. With six minutes left to play it looked like Hayward would walk away with the victory, 11-6.

Playing their last game, the seniors would not let the Eagles go down. Connally would score a goal on a man-up play with an assist from Josh Agadoni to make the score 11-7. With 2:40 left in the game Connally would score again unassisted.

Senior Sean Connally scores 4 goals and 1 assist in his last game as an Eagle.

In the last minute, Biola scored two more goals. Ryan Agadoni picked up a loose ball on the crease and fired it in to make it 11-9. The Eagles fought frantically for the ball and on a fast break Josh Agadoni found Crandall for a score with 9 seconds left.

Now Biola would need to win the face-off against Hayward's Rick Serena, who had already won 12 of 19 face-offs, and call time-out for one last desperation shot in 9 second to send the game into overtime. Biola eventually won the face-off but could not get the ball into the offensive area before time expired to call time-out. Hayward wins 11-10.

Biola finishes the season, 2-5 in league play and 4-7 overall. Glory and thanks be to God.
